Continued Education Units (CEUs) are designed to support certification or recertification of professionals with certificates to practice in their profession. One CEU is equivalent to 10 hours (1 hour = 60 minutes) of participation in organized continuing education activities offered by accredited programs.
As a certified medical coder, it's very important that you keep your certification current by acquiring CEUs. There are various ways by which CEUs can be acquired. Some of the ways by which you can acquire CEUs are by attending workshops, webinars or on-demand events. You can even gain CEUs by attending conferences. But participation in
CEU seminars and conferences can be quite expensive and may pinch your pocket.
But again, getting a CEU need not always be a costly affair. There are many other opportunities by which you can earn CEUs at low or no cost at all. This includes attending local events and chapter meetings. You can even plan your continuing education with other colleagues as this is not only financially beneficial but provides you with an enriching experience as well.
If you are tight on your pocket, you may even ask your employers to compensate for the expense of earning CEUs. Many employers reimburse coders for the expense of their continuing education because they know it will pay off in the long run. In other words, it's a win-win situation for both.
You can even get CEU credits by reading articles from a website. In this direction, there are various one-stop medical coding websites which come stored with such articles.
With such a website around, getting your CEUs couldn't have been any easier!
